Spanish manager Pep Guardiola has gifted his six-figure bonus for winning the Premier League to some members of Manchester City’s staff.
The exact amount has been kept under wraps but some of the club’s senior stars earn bonuses of up to £750,000 inserted into their contracts and Guardiola’s is likely to be around that figure.
Guardiola has always remained keen to stress the importance of the entire staff in City’s recent triumphs and decided to make a donation to a sizeable number of employees.
They are believed to include receptionists and security staff who are seen to have played a role in the historic success this season, culminating in securing the Treble by beating Inter in Saturday’s Champions League final.
The manager, central to City’s celebrations this week, is a hugely popular figure among the staff and his latest act of generosity will significantly increase the value of bonuses that were already handed to those behind the scenes.
Staff who work on the administration side of the business, stationed at the club’s training ground, are afforded small bonuses for each trophy win.
City’s chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, is expected to give a club interview where he looks back on the season and the future, which could be released over the next week.
Guardiola will already be planning for next season, with RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol high on the agenda and Croatia team-mate Mateo Kovacic hopeful of securing a move from Chelsea.
City need to ascertain captain Ilkay Gundogan’s plans, with a new contract on the table but rival interest from Barcelona, who can pick him up on a free transfer.
Paris Saint-Germain are also showing interest in Bernardo Silva, who Jack Grealish was spotted pleading to remain at the club during Monday’s victory parade.
