FA CUP: Silva punishes wasteful Chelsea to land Man City in final

Portuguese forward Bernardo Silva has went from zero to hero as he sealed Manchester City's place in a second successive FA Cup final.

The Portugal international scored the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win against Chelsea at Wembley.

Silva was left unmarked in the Blues box in the 84th minute, pouncing onto Kevin De Bruyne's low cross to tuck home into the bottom right corner.

The victory boosts Pep Guardiola's side's chances of a double, having missed out on a historic double-treble after crashing out of the Champions League midweek.

Former Monaco star Silva, along with Mateo Kovacic, missed his penalty in the 4-3 shootout loss with Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

And that has made his winner in the FA Cup semi-final just three days later all the more sweeter.

The 29-year-old has made scoring at Wembley a habit in recent years, as he now boasts three goals at the Home of Football since being on target for Monaco against Tottenham in 2016.

He was also on the score sheet against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals two years ago.

Despite City's win, it was Chelsea that had the better chances, with the London outfit missing a glorious chance through Nicolas Jackson.

The Senegalese striker was sent one-on-one with Stefan Ortega, only to give the ball away.

Chelsea also felt they should have had a penalty after Jack Grealish handled the ball from a Cole Palmer free-kick.

It proved to be a key moment of the match, with Silva going on to break Chelsea's hearts later in the second half.

Speaking to BBC after the match, Silva said: "Very happy after a very frustrating week for all of us, for me.

"The good thing is in football at Man City, you play every three days.

 "Every three days you have the chance to put things right and now we have a chance to win another trophy."

City will face either Manchester United or Coventry City, who face each other on Sunday.
