Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Arsenal should 'go and buy' Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus in the summer.

The Brazilian forward has been out of action since January with an injury but recently returned to the City setup for wins over Everton and Peterborough but his place in the starting XI is far from assured.

Jesus was initially signed by City as a striker but has since transitioned into a versatile winger that can play anywhere across the front three. However, Pep Guardiola has often preferred to play the likes of Jack Grealish and Phil Foden as his No 9, with Jesus often pushed out wide.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are short of options up top after letting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leave the club on a free in January, which has left Mikel Arteta with just two recognised strikers – Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.

And Ferdinand believes the Gunners should be targeting a move for Jesus, with the Brazil international being potentially the player to solve their depth issues up top.

'If I was Arsenal, I would go and buy Gabriel Jesus,' Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.

The 24-year-old has just 16 months left on his current deal at the Etihad and City  could look to cash in on the Brazilian this summer, unless they can agree to an extension.

Jesus was linked with a move to Inter Milan in January and are said to be long-term admirers of the forward, who will be set to pounce if his future in Manchester remains unresolved.

City boss Guardiola has switched Jesus out wide this season where he has impressed so far and still favours him highly in all forward positions.

'He's a centre forward, he can play there, but when he is played wide he is more comfortable,' Guardiola said last month. 'We encourage him in central positions to be more open, to see the actions.'

'He can play in the three positions up front, and when we need players who can help a lot, he's the best in the world.'

Jesus has featured in 20 Premier League matches this season, 15 of which have come from the start, but has only netted twice in that time.

He has managed to provide eight assists for his team-mates but could weigh up his options come the summer.
