Football legend Alessandro Del Piero explains what makes Victor Osimhen such a special striker and how he has improved at Napoli, as well as why the team plays in a way that ‘is good for him too.’

The Nigeria international scored the goal that secured the Scudetto in last night’s 1-1 draw with Udinese at the Dacia Arena.

It was his 22nd Serie A goal of the season, consolidating his role as Capocannoniere and allowing him to beat the record of 21 goals set by Inter striker Samuel Eto’o for an African player in an Italian top flight campaign.

“What more can be said about Osimhen, this extraordinary player, a symbol of the modern striker?” Del Piero told Sky Sport Italia.

“He has managed to improve during the season. He has some particular characteristics that I love, such as courage, determination, the hunger to score and to do well.

“It doesn’t matter whether he misses three chances or scores three goals, because he will start the very next move with the same level of determination.”

Osimhen has said many times that he is grateful to Spalletti and his staff for their behind the scenes work that has helped him to develop various aspects of his game.

That too is to be taken into consideration when it comes to deciding his future, especially with a price-tag of circa €150m placed on the 24-year-old’s head.

“He has improved during the season following Spalletti’s guidance and the way Napoli play is good for him too. I must say that Napoli with Osimhen is a team for the title, whereas without him it becomes more difficult.

“I think that makes clear the importance of a player who has won everyone over.”
