‘Agent’ Mikel Obi doubly sure Osimhen will join Chelsea over Arsenal and PSG
Former Super Eagles and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has revealed he has become Victor Osimhen's 'agent' in an attempt to make him sign for the Blues. The Napoli striker, despite signing a new lucrative contract in Italy earlier in the season, is expected to be on the move this summer with numerous Premier League clubs interested.
Alongside Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been mooted as potential destinations, although Paris Saint-Germain could instead be leading the way. The French giants are set to lose Kylian Mbappe at the end of the current season on a free transfer as he is expected to join Real Madrid.
As a result of his departure, PSG have made Osimhen one of their No'1 targets to replace Mbappe and they certainly have the financial capabilities to complete a deal. However, Obi-Mikel has jokingly suggested he is Osimhen's 'agent' as part of his plans to convince his fellow Nigerian to sign for Chelsea.
Speaking to journalist Ben Jacobs at Web Summit Qatar, he said: "I'm still his 'agent'. I'm trying to get him to Chelsea so I've got 20 percent of that deal, let's hope it works out. I think there is a genuine interest in both. He loves the club and wants to come to the club, obviously following in my footsteps as a Nigerian player to play for Chelsea, like Victor Moses and Celestine Babayaro.
"He's looked at London as well as a fantastic city, instead of going to Liverpool. But he also has interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, but I'm still pushing and sending him messages. I hope he comes to the club because he will bring so much.
"Anyone who watched the [Carabao Cup] final [vs Liverpool] on Sunday will see one thing we lack is goals. We need a striker who will score goals and that is what Victor will give you. He's not the most skillful player, but he guarantees goals. If he could get us 20 or 25 goals per season. That is what Erling Haaland does and that's why he is one of the best.”
