William Troost-Ekong will be missing in action when the Super Eagles take on Sao Tome and Principe on Monday in Marrakech, Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Matchday 2 clash.

The Watford centre-half sustained a groin injury late in the game against Sierra Leone on Thursday.

The Eagles stand-in captain was stretchered off in the 79th minute after pulling his hamstring from stopping an incisive pass.

Ekong struggled against Sierra Leoneans and was drawn out of position a few times with one of them almost proving fatal.

He was a bit shaky but improved very much in the second half.

The former Udinese defender has left the Abuja camp of the Eagles for London to start treatment ahead of the Hornets' preparations for life in the English Championship after they were relegated from the Premier League.

Kenneth Omeruo who was brought in to replace Ekong against Sierra Leone would most likely be given the starting role on Monday.

The Eagles will depart Abuja on Saturday or early Sunday morning for a date with Sao Tome and Principe in theirsecond Group A tie.
