Afcon 2023: Our Boys valued at €349.75 million is the most expensive squad followed by Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire

The 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations begins on the 13th of January in Cote d’Ivoire, and all 24 teams have already announced their final squads for the tournament.

SuperBetting decided to check the teams with the highest market value, and those with the west one. At first glance, they observed that the combined estimate of all 24 participating nations is €2.730 billion.

Another interesting revelation is that Nigeria boasts the most expensive squad at €349.75 million, with Morocco and Cote d’Ivoire being the only other countries surpassing the €300 million mark. When looking at the other end of the rankings, 3 teams had values below €10 million – Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, and Tanzania.

Here are the most important findings:

– Nigeria has the most expensive squad at the tournament – €349.75 million

– Tanzania has assembled the least expensive squad – €7.03 million

– The combined market values of all participating teams is €2.730 billion

– 10 of the teams are valued at over €100 million and 3 above €300 million

– 3 teams are worth less than €10 million

– Napoli’s Victor Osimhen will be the most expensive player at the tournament with a market value of €110 million which is more than 31% of the entire Nigerian team

– Mohamed Salah is the Premier League player with the highest market value at the tournament at €65 million

– Morocco’s and PSG’s Achraf Hakimi (€65 million) is the footballer with the highest market value coming from the French Ligue 1

– Edmond Tapsoba (€40 million) from Bayer Leverkusen will be the player with the highest market value at Afcon playing on the club level in the German Bundesliga

– The most expensive player representing LaLiga will be Athletic Bilbao’s Inaki Williams, valued at €25 million

Nigeria boasts simultaneously the most expensive player and the most expensive squad in the tournament. Victor Osimhen who plays for Napoli in the Italian Serie A on club level has a market value of €110 million, which alone makes up for more than 31% of the entire Super Eagles squad.

Group A promises a blockbuster game, featuring not only Nigeria but also the hosting nation, Cote d’Ivoire, which has assembled the 3rd most expensive squad for the African Cup of Nations. The only other team whose market valuation goes beyond €300 million is Morocco.

Senegal and Algeria have estimates ranging between €200 and €300 million, while Ghana, Mali, Cameroon, Egypt, and DR Congo make up the 10 teams with market values exceeding €100 million.

Of these 10 teams, Egypt comes out as the side most reliant on a single individual. In the Pharaohs squad, the value of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is just €5.2 million less than all of the other 26 players called up for the African Cup of Nations 2023.

14 of the 24 participating teams have been valued below €100 million. 3 of those have estimates in the range between €50 and €100 million with another 3 not even reaching €10 million in market values. The squads of Equatorial Guinea (€9.43 million), Namibia (€7.05 million)  , and Tanzania (€7.03 million) are the least expensive at the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations. Equatorial Guinea might consider themselves as the unluckiest, as they were drawn in Group A of the tournament alongside Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire – two of the teams valued above €300 million.
