Everton have reportedly recalled Nigeria-born midfielder Dele Alli from his loan spell at Turkish club Besiktas, according to Football Insider.

Alli joined Everton from Tottenham in January of last year, with the agreement that Everton would pay Spurs in instalments totalling around £ 40 million, with the first instalment of £10 million due after he played 20 games for Everton.

However, Alli has struggled to make an impact at Everton, making only 13 appearances and failing to impress. As a result, he was loaned out to Besiktas, but his woes continued there as well. Alli made just 15 appearances for the Turkish club, scoring only 3 goals, and has been plagued by disciplinary issues and injuries.

He recently went AWOL after being allowed limited time off by the club and was most recently was pictured with helium cannisters and alcohol.

According to the report, Besiktas are no longer willing to trigger a £6.9 million permanent clause in their loan deal for Alli, prompting Everton to recall him to avoid triggering clauses in their deal with Tottenham. Everton will reportedly pay off the rest of Alli’s contract this summer to avoid further complications.

Alli’s fall from grace has been remarkable. Once considered one of England’s most promising young players, he was often compared to the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard due to his goal-scoring ability.

However, his form dipped at Spurs, and he struggled to find his footing at Everton. His loan spell at Besiktas has also been marred by off-field issues and injuries.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Alli, but it is clear that he faces significant challenges in reviving his career.

Everton’s decision to recall him and pay off his contract early reflects the disappointment and lack of impact he has had since joining the club.

Alli will now have to reassess his career path and work towards regaining the form and promise he once showed as a young talent in English football.
