The race for a Suoer Six finish is still very open as the first stanza of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL, premiership ended on Wednesday after the conclusion of matchday 7.  


A total of 42 matches have been played so far, and Bayelsa United suffered their first defeat of the season in the hands of Delta Queens right there in Yenegoa, on Wednesday, this threw opened the race for a top 3 finish in group A. 

Though the victory for Delta Queens opened six points ahead of the rest of the park in group A, the remaining five teams' six teams all have recorded points that can still guarantee them a top 3 finish as the scrabble points reached crescendo since the turn of the year. 


Rivers Angel's quest for points suffered a setback when the Royal Queens held the favorite to a goalless draw on Wednesday.


While Heartland Queens shut out Osun Babes 2-0 in Owerri taking total advantage of the teams ahead of drops point to move closer to the top 3 teams on the log.


It's closely knitted between Bayelsa United, Rivers Angels as well as Heartland Queens as only two points separated the teams from number two to fourth position on the log, and Naija Ratels in fifth position with 7 points.


All these can make it to Super Six as we await the resumption of the second stanza. 


At the lower part of the ladder, the relegation fight is real and agonizingly close as well,  as Royal Queens is on four points, a point from Osun Babes at the bottom of the log. 


it's even closer to the top of group B. 


After the conclusion of matchday, Edo Queens leads by 12 points as others consolidated their position on the log taking full advantage of Edo Queens' rest day on Matchday 7. 

Nasarawa Amazons defeated Abia Angels by 2-1, to leapfrog Abia Angels on goals difference in the second and third respectively as both teams are tied on 10 points from six matches. 


Confluence Queens also took their points to haul on fourth position to 10 after a spirited 1-0 victory away to Ibom Angels to keep the pressure on Edo Queens and the rest in the Super Six zone. 

Robo FC won their first game at home with a 3-0 thumping of Adamawa Queens to push their point 7 points on six positions, a sort of relief for the Emmanuel Osahor-led girls as they ease relegation pressure off their shoulders at least for now, opening up a four points gap between them and Ibom Angels at the bottom of the log.


Adamawa Queens will leak their wound of picking no points in Lagos and remain three points adrift of the leader, in fifth position as only 3 points separated the top 5 teams while only three teams will make it to the next phase after the second stanza. 


The second stanza will begin on February 8, as the fights for points continue, and the season will go into Suoer Six comprising the top 3 finishers from group A and group B the winner of the Super Six competition will be crowned the champions of the league and will fly the country's flag at the WAFU B regional Competition which will serve as qua qualifier for CAF Women Champions League as the winner will represent the region in Africa's biggest club competition for women.


Meanwhile, teams are expected to use the break to fortify their team as the transfer window was thrown open during the break.
