There is a degree of controversy in African football at the present moment.

The Mauritania U15 team has decided to withdraw from the FAU Region tournament which is being held in Liberia.

The reason is the age difference between their players and those of Sierra Leone, to whom they lost 6-0 in the opening match.

The pictures speak for themselves, showing the differences in the height and the faces of the starting players of each team.

In addition, the Mauritanian federation has been warned, as it said in an official statement, that several rival players were in breach of the tournament rules.

"We have been informed by many spectators that the ages of some of the teams participating are far from the legal limits to participate in this championship," the statement read.

To justify their decision, they have stressed the safety of their players. In view of the "danger" to the "health and safety of the players" and the "injuries to which they may be exposed", Mauritania has announced its withdrawal from a tournament in which nine countries from this African region are taking part. So far, no team has joined Mauritania in its decision.
