The ex-Newcastle United manager could become the new man at the helm of the national team, according to speculation

The possible appointment of the former Brighton and Hove Albion is generating a lot of excitement on social media.

The Black Stars are in the market for a new coach following the sacking of Serbian tactician Milovan Rajevac on the back of a first-round elimination at the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

According to media reports, Hughton, who was born to a Ghanaian father and an Irish mother in England, has become the leading candidate for the Stars job, ahead of the likes of Borussia Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo and Aston Villa U23 manager George Boateng.

Many Ghanaians have taken to social media to share their thoughts, mostly positively, on the possible appointment of the 63-year-old, who has reportedly already arrived in Ghana for talks.

A highly experienced football manager from June 1993 to October 2007, Hughton was a coach at Tottenham Hotspur, initially in charge of the under-21 team, then the reserve side in 1999, being promoted to the first team two years later.

In his time at Spurs, he served under 11 different managers: Keith Burkinshaw, Ray Clemence, Doug Livermore, Osvaldo Ardiles, Gerry Francis, Christian Gross, George Graham, Glenn Hoddle, David Pleat, Jacques Santini and Martin Jol.

He also worked at Newcastle United, Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and most recently Nottingham Forest.
