Osimhen may miss Mozambique match as Napoli frets over Eagles star injury

Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen will undergo an MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury he sustained in Nigeria’s 2-2 draw with Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Osimhen was replaced by Terem Moffi in the 55th minute of the encounter after sustaining an injury.

The 24-year-old now remains doubtful for the Super Eagles' next friendly against the Mambas of Mozambique on Monday.

Head coach, Jose Peseiro confirmed the Napoli hitman will undergo a scan on Monday to ascertain the severity of the injury.

“At this moment, it is my opinion, will I go and put in a player with an injury? A month’s injury, or even two? It is better to put it in his mind now,” Peseiro said during his interaction with the media after the game.

“He is going to do the test, check, and if it doesn’t improve, you must expect the club [to make the final decisions], the club pays the salary for him. Not only for Osimhen but for our players.”

Meanwhile, Napoli are worried after news Osimhen limped off injured during Nigeria’s friendly match against Roberto Mancini’s Saudi Arabia.

It is not yet clear what kind of injury he has sustained, but it will undoubtedly concern Napoli ahead of crucial games against Verona, Union Berlin in the Champions League, and Milan in Serie A.

Osimhen, according to Italian reporters,  has an unfortunate record of sustaining injuries while playing for Nigeria, including a dislocated shoulder in November 2020 that kept him out for two months. He also contracted COVID on two different Christmas visits back home.
