Jacob Jonathan's last-minute strike for Elkanemi broke the hearts of Nasarawa United fans as Elkanemi won their second game of the season by defeating home side Nasarawa United by 2-0 in the NPFL matchday 12 played at the New Jos Stadium on Saturday.

Jacob Jonathan struck the winner in the 89th minute after Ugochukwu Ajah's 27th-minute opener was canceled out by Nasarawa's James Isaac from the spot in the 37th minute.

The result did maximum damage to Nasarawa United's ambition of escaping relegation as the club is now tied on eight points with Elkanemi with both teams occupying the 9th and 10th position respectively.

In the wake of the unexpected outcome of the match, Nasarawa United technical adviser, Bala Nikiyu resigned from his post and thanked the management for the opportunity to serve the club.

The former Flamingoes coach won only two games out of the twelve played this season, pulled two draws and lost massive 8 games both at home and away.

In a swift reaction, the management of Nasarawa United has asked Nikiyu's assistant to stand in as the Technical Adviser in the interim while they shop for a substantial Technical Adviser as they have six more matches to salvage their season.

Meanwhile, the remaining matchday 12 matches will be played on Sunday as Plateau United vs Bendel Insurance, and Akwa United vs Enyimba highlight the big matches.
