Nigeria’s first Olympic Gold medalist, Chioma Ajunwa, has been decorated with a new Police rank. 

Chioma Ajunwa was decorated as Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP on Thursday, May 11, 2023, by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Frank Mba as the elegant stallion continue to soar in her chosen profession.

Ajunwa became the country's first Olympic medalist when she won the gold medal in the long jump event at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta registering her as the first black African woman to win an Olympic gold medal in a field event.

The multi-talented Police woman represented Nigeria in track and field for many years while combining her policing work with sports, and ever since she retired from sports, she has been a leading light in her chosen career.

She was also a member of the Nigeria Women's Senior National Team to the maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991.

Chioma Ajunwa is one of the many heroes and heroines the Nigeria Police Force has produced over the years.
