News of Madrid preparing a £103m bid for Mbappe and player verbal agreement with PSG causing confusion

Just as several media outlets are reporting Sunday night that Real Madrid are preparing a £103million offer to sign PSG star Kylian Mbappe this summer, several other outlets are also reporting that the French captain has agreed verbally to sign a new deal to stay in Paris.

Reports says the Spanish giants are planning to table a bid in the three days before September 1, when the transfer window ends, to put pressure on PSG, it is claimed.

Mbappe's desire to leave PSG is no secret but he has not been particularly keen to do so this summer, with his initial preference being to join Madrid once his contract is up.

He has refused to sign an extension, leading PSG bosses to insist he must be sold to the highest bidder so they can recoup some cash - but he sensationally refused to speak with Saudi club Al-Hilal after they offered £259m for him.

Now, Madrid are set to try and land their man a year earlier than planned with a late summer swoop, according to BILD.

The urgency has been precipitated by the departure of Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad, leaving them in need of a high-end replacement.

Mbappe was, briefly, banished to the PSG 'B' team for training - an illustration of PSG's fury - but has since been reinstated.

The French champions' president Nasser Al-Khelaifi had confirmed plans to sell Mbappe if he did not agree to a new deal after the forward was left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Japan.

However, he has returned to the fold this week, and he played (and scored) on Saturday.

Mbappe now looks to have had a change of heart in terms of signing a new contract, with multiple reports in England stating that a verbal agreement has been reached with PSG over an extension.

Mbappe’s current contract expires next summer, but he could now extend that by an extra year or two, although a departure in 2024 would be guaranteed, as per a clause that would be included in the deal. It would mean that PSG would avoid losing him for free.

Real Madrid have remained interested in signing Mbappe, although they had been hoping to get him for free next summer
