Mbappé won’t renew PSG deal may write off bonus to join Madrid

French captain Kylian Mbappé still doesn’t want to renew his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, according to L’Équipe.

Despite reports indicating that the France captain could possibly renew his contract at the Parc des Princes, no discussions have taken place between PSG and the forward about him extending his stay at the club.

Mbappé has recently been brought back into first-team training with Luis Enrique’s squad, after spending an extended time training in the “loft” with PSG’s transfer-listed players.

This resolution came after the club and player returned to speaking terms. The discussions did not include a conversation about the France forward signing a new deal with Les Parisens, and Mbappé still has the same stance regarding signing the one-year extension option to his contract.

The reasoning behind the 24-year-old’s sudden return to first-team training is unknown, but it suggests he conceded something that would improve the club’s vulnerable position of leaving him on a free transfer. Mbappé’s main aim during the discussions with the club was to return to the first team and play for the Ligue 1 champions again.

Real Madrid have been long-term suitors for the former Monaco attacker, and are hoping to sign him on a free transfer in 2024.

Mbappe's talk with the club that have seen him reintegrated into the team were on a different subject.

Instead of assuring continuity, Kylian was obliged to give up something ‘financially’ to train and play again.

According to Mario Cortegana, the sacrifice the French World Cup winner had to make was giving up his bonuses.

Mbappé renouncing the bonus and remaining without an extension is being seen as one of the solutions that allowed both parties to find common ground.

At PSG, the scenario is favorably received because it is thought that the player may even end up renewing if the new project led by Luis Enrique appeals to him.

If not, sacrificing the bonuses would allow the Parisian club to suffer less financial loss as a result of his departure.

All in all, the recent news indicates that Real Madrid do not have to worry about losing their star man as the option of acquiring him in 2024 is well alive.
