Mbappé told his action may ruin PSG financially

In the wake of reports that France captain Kylian Mbappé had reiterated his intention to remain at the club this season, L’Équipe report that Paris Saint-Germain have once again sent a letter to the Frenchman. This time, they detail the financial consequences of his potential departure on a free next summer.

For the time being, neither side appears willing to budge from their positions – Mbappé is refusing to sign a contract extension past the end of the upcoming season, while PSG themselves are desperate not to lose him on a free.

The France captain remains sidelined from the first team, and is training with the rest of the transfer-listed players. The club sent him a letter recently.

The letter, which was sent on August 4 – four days after his one-year extension clause expired – begins by detailing the “extraordinary” financial conditions of his contract, “which nobody has had in football”.

The club then goes on to explain that unless they receive a transfer fee on his departure, they will need to sell players to make up for the financial loss, as well as reconsider the way in which young players are brought into the first team. They then explain that the move will likely lead to a “wave of redundancies” at the club – “this will call into question everything that has been built within the club”.
