Madrid sacked the club doctor for mismanaging Arda Güler’s injury

Real Madrid have removed Niko Mihic from his position as head of first team medical services at the club: the decision comes following criticism of Arda Güler’s injury management. The player, who has not yet made his official debut, once again sustained a physical issue that will keep him out of action for another month.

The Croatian doctor arrived at the club in 2017 and will maintain his ties with Real Madrid, but in a new role that will see him leave his job as the main medical figure responsible for the first team.

The Turkish midfielder suffered a small tear in his right quadriceps and is set to be on the sideline for around a month. The wait continues for a player who first sustained an injury in pre-season and since then has been fighting to remain fit, without success.

The relapses that the player has suffered put Mihic in the spotlight, whose work over the past 7 years has been beneficial for the club, especially during the pandemic. Madrid returned to full fitness after the covid-19 stoppage and won the league in the 2020-21 season. However, Mihic has been the victim of serving many years in the same role of head of medical services and the continual injury issues that Güler has sustained were the final straw for those who make the personnel decisions.

Over the past few weeks, discrepancies between the Croatian doctor and others at the club regarding the correct way to manage Güler have been evident and as a result, the now ex-head has been removed from his first team duties.
