Madrid ready to pay €40-50 million for Bayern defender as La Liga president hails Mbappe’s signing

Real Madrid has set very specific priorities for the 2024 summer transfer window, hoping to first complete the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer.

The Frenchman has decided to leave PSG after seven years at the club, with his next destination inevitably the Spanish capital.

Madrid are in final negotiations with the player, after which he will finalise the terms of his exit from the Parisian giants. Reports claim that he will receive a €130 million signing bonus to go along with his €20 net million salary.

Once this deal goes through, Florentino Perez and Co. will have their eyes set on a certain Alphonso Davies, who is out of contract in the summer of 2025 with Bayern Munich.

The Bavarians have been trying to persuade him to sign an extension with the club, but as it stands, Davies’ future is more open than ever, according to a report from Florian Plettenberg.

At this stage, Bayern expects him to leave in the summer and then extend his contract beyond 2025, with Madrid looking like the next step in the Canadian’s future.

Davies has been with the Bundesliga defending champions since 2019 and was an integral part of the sextuple-winning side under Hansi Flick a year later.

However, it seems that a meeting between Bayern director Christoph Freund and Davies’ agent Nick Huoseh, has left some doubts in both parties’ minds.

Personal terms with the 23-year-old will not be an issue for Madrid, but they are only willing to pay a maximum of €40-50 million for the player.

Bayern, meanwhile, expect Madrid to heavily push down their asking price, with only one year remaining on Davies’ contract. They could be forced to comply with whatever price Los Blancos ask for him.

Davies’ agents also met with Barcelona in recent weeks, but it seems that was nothing more than a tactic to put pressure on both Madrid and Bayern.

Meanwhile, the La Liga president is delighted that Mbappe snubbed England for Spain. When asked about the potential impact of the Frenchman's arrival in La Liga president Javier Tebas told L'Equipe that it is undoubtedly a positive development for the league.

"Of course, this is fantastic news for Real Madrid and for Spanish football," Tebas declared in an interview with L'Equipe.

"He is one of the top players in the world. In my opinion, Bellingham, Haaland, and Mbappe are the three dominant players on the planet, and two of them are now at Real Madrid.

Regarding the financial implications of Kylian's arrival for Real Madrid, Tebas made clear that the club will not face any issues similar to those that have plagued Barcelona of late.

"It is a club in an excellent economic position," he added.

"The president and the general manager are very capable administrators, but they are not very good at organizing new competitions.

"They are not required to sell anyone to afford Mbappe, not at all."

Tebas also commented on his fractured relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, with a dispute coming from Perez's spearheading of the European Super League project.

"He hasn't spoken to me in three years. However, I am pleased that they are signing Mbappe. I would like to take this opportunity to convey the message that I am delighted that Real Madrid is making such signings to build a strong team."

He also addressed the Super League, which continues to try and figure out a future.

"The issue is not Real Madrid, but Florentino Perez and his very personal vision. Every day, more and more fans of the team are opposed to the Super League concept."
