Madrid may have deliberately leaked the ‘we are no longer interested in Mbappé’ story to test the waters

The report that came out of Spain that Real Madrid is ruling out the signing of Kylian Mbappé may have been deliberately pushed out by the club to test the waters. The report claimed even if the Frenchman decides to become a free agent, Los Blancos don’t intend to pursue him.

However, RMC Sport reports that this is all a front that the Spanish club orchestrates. Additionally, the French media outlet reveals that Real Madrid is still interested in signing Mbappé at the end of the contract, despite the indiscretions of Cadena SER.

In reality, this leak comes from the Madrid club and allows it to preserve its image. The summer of 2021, during which Mbappé finally decided to extend his contract with PSG, left its mark on those at the club.

There is no question for Real Madrid about giving the impression of chasing the Parisian striker. With this media strategy, Real Madrid seeks to cover itself in the event of a non-signing.

It’s been a rollercoaster of news regarding this transfer saga. This past weekend, Real Madrid issued a statement to clarify that they’re not negotiating with Mbappé. It will be interesting to see how this entire saga finally ends.

In the last 24 hours the media in Spain has been awash with reports that  Madrid has decided to not pursue the signing of PSG superstar Mbappe in the summer of 2024.

But if the report from Cadena SER is to be believed, Real Madrid has definitively ruled out a move for Mbappe, even if he does not sign a new contract with PSG and becomes available for free in the summer of 2024.

This comes as a huge shock, considering that the French World Cup winner has been the long-desired target of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

The report states that Los Blancos considers the Mbappe soap opera closed for good, irrespective of what his contractual situation is come the end of the season.

It is further stated that there are three primary reasons behind Real Madrid taking such a drastic stance as far as Mbappe’s pursuit is concerned.

Firstly, the impact that Mbappe would have on the club’s salary scale is seen as a hindrance, considering that the Frenchman would command wages in excess of €20 million per year, not to mention the signing-on bonus that would also need to be offered if he joins for free.

To put things into context, Real Madrid’s in-form player, Jude Bellingham, is on wages worth around €9 million per season.

Apart from the wages, Los Blancos also consider that Mbappe’s signing would not fit into the club’s recent recruitment policy which focuses on spending big on younger players.

The Frenchman would almost be 26 if he joins next summer, which reportedly goes against Los Blancos’ ideology.

Finally, Mbappe’s rejection in 2022 is seen as another reason for not signing him next year as Real Madrid fear his arrival would create a divide between the club members.
