Kipchoge intensifies training ahead Tokyo Marathon

Dethroned marathon king Eliud Kipchoge has provided an update on his Tokyo Marathon preparations before bidding to defend his title at the Paris Olympic Games.

Five-time Berlin Marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has given an update on his preparations ahead of the Tokyo Marathon scheduled for Sunday, March 3.

Kipchoge confirmed participation in the 2024 Tokyo Marathon late last year and he has been sharing a glimpse of how his training has been going on in his bid to continue writing history.

The four-time London Marathon champion took to his X (Twitter) handle to explain how he has been working around the clock to achieve the target of winning his second Tokyo Marathon title.

He said: “The past weeks have been full of hard training sessions. I can say that this Tokyo marathon preparation is a beautiful journey so far. 37 days until the big day.”

After the Tokyo Marathon, the two-time Olympic marathon champion will seek to become the first man to win his third Olympic title over the marathon at the Paris Olympic Games.

The former marathon world record holder will be going to defend the title that he won during the delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. He bagged his first Olympic title during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The past weeks have been full of hard training sessions. I can say that this Tokyo marathon preparation is a beautiful journey so far.

Meanwhile, the legendary marathoner will also be looking to improve on his performance last season after finishing sixth at the Boston Marathon and failing to achieve his target, a world record, at the Berlin Marathon.

After the Boston Marathon, Kipchoge observed that he had a problem with his left leg, which is why he performed poorly. The Berlin Marathon was a bad day in office for the 39-year-old but he promised to bounce back stronger.

However, he made history in the same streets of the German capital, becoming the first man to win the marathon five times.
