Still basking in the euphoria of their 2-0 win over The Djutus of Guinea Bissau on Wednesday, Super Eagles and Leicester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho believes Eagles owe their recent form to the newly-found identity within the rank.
Fielding questions from reporters after Wednesday's match, the former Manchester City star hinted that while the team has been strong in recent times, such a feat would not have been possible without coach Austin Eguavoen's coaching philosophy.
Super Eagles had struggled to find an identity under former manager Gernot Rohr as the country senior national team sunk deeper into the tactical morass, but Iheanacho believes Eguavoen's tactics have brought in a breath of fresh air into the team.
"We have been strong in recent times but the new identity in the national team is very, very important," he said
The former U-17 champions described the Wednesday night win as a good omen and laud his teammates for sustaining the tempo against Guinea Bissau despite coming into the game with six points in the bag.
"Winning all the three games is outstanding so we are really happy, we are looking forward to the next games," Iheanacho said
The Leicester City attacking predator stressed that the current set of Super Eagles know what is expected of them in matches, adding that the team will leave no stone unturned to ensure the team step up its performance in subsequent matches
"We know how to play and how to move between lines . We've got what we need so we need to carry on like that".
Nigeria is expected to face the third-place team from either Group E or F in the second round fixture on Sunday.
