Nigeria-born fighter, Israel Adesanya was recently featured on Drake and drinking and here is what the UFC middleweight champion had to say..

My favourite meal

The Nigerian dish, suya. It’s goat or cow’s meat kebab, but it’s the spices that make it special. The finest is from street corners, cooked on a charcoal grill with onions and wrapped in a newspaper. I’m salivating just thinking about it.

My favourite restaurant

When I’m in a different country, I tap into the food of the people. I’m in London for the first time now, so I’ve had a really nice full English breakfast, with black pudding and, I’ll tell you what: it’s delicious. There are so many Nigerians in London — we’re everywhere! — so I’m going to find the best Nigerian restaurant, because I miss the taste of home too.

My dinner party

The rapper Doja Cat would be fun. Mike Tyson would command the room and he has stories to tell. The cartoon character, Deadpool, would have a lot to say, as would 2Pac, who was an absolute wordsmith and he’d be great around a table. Lastly Jeff Sainlar, my camera guy, boy does he like to eat.

My guilty pleasure

Crème brûlée. I love cracking into it, I love the texture and I love turning my spoon in it.

My favourite drink

I hate beer, it’s disgusting, so for me it’s a sweet, beautiful cocktail that tastes lovely and gets me drunk. Or bourbon’n’coke. I start off with half and half, but then I bring the bourbon down and add more coke.

My worst hangover

I’ve had some of the worst, but funnily enough, I do training and get over it. It used to take me a few days to get over them and I’d always spend most of that time in bed. Last night: I got drunk in London for the first time. Today: no hangover.

My favourite film

The Harder They Fall. That was a gorgeous film.

My favourite TV series

The animated show Dota: Dragon’s Blood, which I binged on Netflix. It was beautiful. The animation shows you violence, the blood splatters and it gives you gore.

My favourite pop star

Drake, just ahead of Chris Brown. The way he juxtaposes words and use double and triple entendres is second to none. Phenomenal.

My favourite album

Right now, it’s CLB, Certified Lover Boy, by Drake. Not least since that’s how I see myself.

My favourite book

I can read but I’m dyslexic, so I love audiobooks, from which I can retain more information. The 48 Laws Of Power by Robert Greene is about how you can spot different powerplays, how people use them to their advantage and how you can too. It’s a manual for life, so you can never get trapped or duped by someone. It’s a good book to have in your arsenal.
