Goals and glory as Robo Queens, Ikorodu City FC retain Lagos FA Cup

It was a goals galore on the final day of the 2024  Lagos FA Cup played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan Lagos on Sunday as Robo Queens and Ikorodu City FC retain the Women's and Men's title respectively. 


A total of seven goals were scored in the two thrilling categories as Robo Queens suffocated Dannaz FC by 4-1 and Ikorodu City FC defeated first timer Inter Lagos by 2-0 to be crowned champions. 


Robo Queens start actress was Ijamilusi Folashade scored two of the goals while Solati Fatimah scored Dannaz Ladies only goal. 


Robo Queens, took total control of the match from the blast of the whistle and translated their dominance into goals which eventually saw them successfully defended the title won last year as they picked their 14th title on the series.


Head Coach of Robo Queens, Emmanuel Osahon, credit her girls for doing well to win the  trophy.


“We won this cup for our hard work, kudos for my players for doing so well for yet again lifting the trophy to exert our clear dominance in Lagos,” Osahon said.


It's the same story for Ikorodu City FC in the men's final against Inter Lagos in the second match of the day.


The game started as a ding dong affair in the early but Ikorodu City FC made their experience count as they gradually settled into the game and began to find openings with neat passes through the middle. 


Their patience and hard work paid off in the 27th minute after Harrison Uzondu put the Oga Boys ahead through a header from the corner kick, all efforts from Inter Lagos to even the scores at half time was met with stiff resistance. 


In the second half, things became brighter for  Ikorodu FC as coach Bright Ozegbagbe made a couple of substitutions. 

This led to the total dominance by Ikorodu City FC, as they took over the midfield with diminutive Toyeeb Gidago pulling the strings, creating the right rhythm between the midfield and the attack , pilling pressure on their opponent's defence .


Inter Lagos defence finally caved in the 57th minutes when they conceded a penalty which was coolly converted by Tosin Oyedokun to take the game beyond Inter Lagos and sealed a 2-0 victory for the Oga Boys.


Harrison Uzondu of Ikorodu FC allotted the victory to hard work and dedicated the result to his mother and the fans of the club. 

We did well to win the match, last season I was not fit to play so I was not active, but this season I was fit and very active in the final game. 

“I am really happy, I dedicate this victory to my sweet mother and the rest of fans of Ikorodu FC,” Uzondu said.


Robo Queens and Ikorodu FC were rewarded with  N500,000 for lifting the trophy.


While runner ups , Dannaz Ladies and Inter Lagos got three hundred thousand naira from the Lagos FA for their effort. 

All the finalists will represent Lagos in the 2024 Federation Cup which will commence in earnest.
