Giannis pens new Bucks deal worth $186 million, Okongwu also signs $62 million extension with Hawks

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has reportedly agreed to a three-year, $186 million contract extension with the franchise, according to ESPN. The deal includes a player option for the 2027-28 NBA season.

Antetokounmpo, 28, made waves in the offseason when he said the Bucks had to make significant roster moves to convince him to sign a contract extension.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst did just that by trading for Portland Trail Blazers legend Damian Lillard.

Horst, 40, and Antetokounmpo's agent, Alex Saratsis of Octagon, reportedly met on Sunday in Chicago to work through the max extension details. The two-time league MVP agreed to the deal the following morning prior to the 11:59 PM ET deadline.

Antetokounmpo reportedly has a chance to earn extra money throughout the course of his career. The player option in the 2027-28 season and the Over-38 rule in the CBA allow Giannis to sign another short-term deal with Milwaukee in 2026.

He can then sign another four-year extension with the Bucks in 2028. Antetokounmpo is preparing to start the upcoming NBA season on Thursday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Meanwhile, Onyeka Okongwu figures to be the future of the Atlanta Hawks frontcourt. After showing growth each of his first three seasons in the league, the Hawks have agreed to a four-year, $62 million contract extension with the young center.

Now under contract in Atlanta through the 2027-28 season, Okongwu is set to hold a key role, possibly taking over for veteran big man Clint Capela sooner rather than later.

Okongwu, 22, was drafted 6th overall by the Hawks in 2020 and has made his presence felt as one of the better rim protectors in the entire league. His 107 blocks last season ranked 10th in the NBA and he came off the bench in 62 of the 80 total games he played in.

In total, Okongwu averaged 9.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game last season, all of which were new career highs
