Many are quick to say what a man can do, a woman can do better and that has been the case with the Chelsea Women team that beat Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday to win the FA Cup and complete a Double.

After sealing the league title last weekend, Emma Hayes’ team knew what they had to do against the rising force of Manchester City.

Twice the Blues went ahead and twice a gritty City pushed back to level the scores. It was Sam Kerr, the team’s talisman in attack, who made the vital contribution as her deflected shot on the break in the 99th minute rolled in to make it 3-2.

What started out as a season full of promise for the Men has ended up in a punishing last few months of heartbreak after setback, and the smiles and joy at Wembley today were a great way to wash away the negative feeling around the club.
