Ayew brothers deny quitting Black Stars as Sports Minister call for team improvement
Ghana vs Nigeria

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew and his junior brother Jordan has denied quitting the Ghanaian national football team.

Black Stars face the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the Qatar 2022 World Cup ticket at a date to be decided in March 2022.

The first leg will take place in a yet to decided venue in Accra or Kumasi while MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja will host the second leg.

The Spokesperson of the Ayew family, Fiifi Tackie on Friday refuted media reports that Andre and Jordan have quit the Black Stars.

Tackie in a Facebook post said the pair were still very committed to the Black Stars team as they have always been.

His comments come in the wake of media reports that the Ayews had decided to call time on their international careers after Ghana's disastrous AFCON 2021 campaign in Cameroon.

He posted: "Andrè and Jordan Ayew are still very committed to the Black Stars team as they have always been. And they will continue to be. They will keep donning the Black Stars jersey to represent Ghana and give the team their very best on and off the pitch, as always. We just got off the phone. Please ignore the fabrications".

Andre and Jordan have faced criticism from some sections of the local media over their performances in Cameroon.

It will be recalled that in February 2013, Andre and Jordan Ayew retired from international football after a dispute with the Ghana Football Association.

The sons of Ghana legend Abedi 'Pele' Ayew, wrote separate letters to the GFA to inform the GFA of their resignations.

"My decision to withdraw my services from the national team results from a number of issues or matters that have occurred quite recently, especially with regard to my relationship with the management team of the senior national team," said Andre.

"These matters have so affected me emotionally and psychologically that I am unable presently to offer the best of my services to my dear nation."

Jordan said he was quitting so that he could play well at club level and "obtain the quality, experience and stature necessary for a call-up to play in the national team".

However, they returned to the team for a World Cup qualifier against Zambia on 6 September 2013.

Meanwhile, Ghana Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Yussif, informed Parliament of plans by the government to improve the performance of the national team, the Black Stars.

According to him, the technical bench of the team has been tasked to come up with more details on the selection and management of the players to ensure better performance in future tournaments.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the Minister explain that there is a roadmap to encourage inter-school participation in active sports to ensure the best talents are harnessed for future national sports endeavors and to widen the scope of selection to the national soccer team.

A member of the parliament for South Tongu, Wisdom Kobena Woyome, cited many technical anomalies such as player disconnect, indiscipline, poor managerial tactics, poor motivation, etc as some of the causes of the poor performance of the team.

Members, from both sides of the House, spoke against the performance of the National Team, suggesting, passionately, many ways the team’s fortunes can be improved.
