Awoniyi reveals Cooper’s plan that paid off against Chelsea

Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has explained how the Reds executed their game plan perfectly to earn a draw against Chelsea against Stamford Bridge.

Awoniyi scored a brace to give Forest a point in west London, leaving them now three points clear of the relegation zone with two games to play. Relegation rivals Everton and Leicester City are still to play this weekend.

Speaking after the game, Forest's number nine explained how they went to Stamford Bridge with a plan and saw it through just as they had hoped. He also looked ahead to the "two finals" Forest have left.

"It was a good game," Awoniyi told Premier League Productions. "Obviously we know how good they are as a team and we came here with the spirit and togetherness, and we had a plan and it worked. Unfortunately we didn't get the three points.

"The most important thing was to get the goals and that brought us into the game. Many times we sat off but that's the game plan and that's what we did. It helped us as a team and individually to earn the draw today.

"Obviously when they score those two quick goals, you feel bad but that is football and you just have to believe in yourself and your team-mates and keep going and in the end we got the point

"I think for every striker, you always want to score every game. As a striker, you have to bring your team-mates in. It was a good ball from Brennan [Johnson] and if they don't bring the ball into the box, there is no way I can get the chance to score so it is all teamwork.

"We still have two finals to go, the next one is Arsenal and from there we will see what happens."
