Team Nigeria queen of the track Tobi Amusan narrowly lost the 60m World Athletics Indoor Tour title to Bahamian  Devynne Charlton by just one point.

Charlton outscored Amusan after she won the final leg of the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Madrid, Spain.

Charlton posted an exceptional display in the final and was close to equaling her world indoor 60m hurdles record, with her flawless performance in the race clocking in at 7.68secs – the equal third-fastest time in history.

The win moved the Bahamian hurdler’s total score to 28, one more than Amusan’s 27 points to end up as the winner of the event.

Charlton also earned a $10,000 bonus and a wild card entry for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow which is held next weekend.

According to World Athletics, the result of the best three athletes will count towards their overall point score and the athlete with the most points in each scoring discipline at the end of the tour will be declared the winner.

Charlton had finished third at the Boston Indoors behind Amusan who placed second at the event. She also won at the Melrose Indoor Games and in Madrid while Amusan won in Astana, came second in Boston, and won in Lievin, France to record 27 but the 28-year-old edged the Nigerian track star via the extra three bonus score for setting a world record in New York.

Amusan however, can become the first Nigerian to win a World Indoor title as well as the indoor and outdoor world record in the high hurdles should she win in Glasgow this weekend.

Meanwhile, the duo Ese Brume and Ruth Usoro did not make the final shortlist of seven top performers while Chukwuebuka Enekwechi placed seventh in the overall ranking in shot put with six points after finishing fourth both at the meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and in Madrid last Friday.
