Again, match winner Oshoala makes history in USA

Reigning African Best Player of the Year (Women’s), Asisat Lamina Oshoala has once again written her name in the history book of the United States National Women’s Super League (NWSL) club, Bay FC after she scored the club’s first-ever goal in the league as her team beat hosts Angel City FC in the early hours of Monday, Prompt News reports.

The former Barcelona striker scored 17 minutes into her debut to claim victory for the newly acquired team to become the first player to score their first-ever goal in the league.

“My career has been all about making history, doing crazy things, and I’m very happy to be part of the history of the club,” said Oshoala, who recently transferred from European champions Barcelona Femeni.

The Lagos state-born Oshoala who is the Six-time winner of the CAF Best Player of the Year (Women’s) Awards completed her move to Bay FC in February 2024 after signing a two-year deal with an option of another year for a reported fee of $162,000.

By the result of the match played at Banc of California Stadium, Los Angeles on Sunday night and Monday morning in Nigeria, Bay FC has jumped to the 4th position in the 14-team  NWSL with North Carolina Courage, Chicago Red Stars, and Kansas City Current occupying first to third positions courtesy of superior goal difference but on three points each with Bay FC and Seattle Reign FC which is in the 5th position.
