Serena may rethink retirement
Serena Wlliams

Tennis icon Serena Williams announced her retirement from tennis in August.

The US tennis star said goodbye after being eliminated in the third round of the 2022 US Open after losing the match to Ajla Tomljanović.

Now Serena has sensationally reshuffled the cards, with a statement that she leaves more than one door open to a possible come back.

During NBC's Jimmy Fallon Night Show, she said: "I've never said the word retreat, a door to return is always open.

I talked to Tom Brady about his story, you never know. I don't see myself far from tennis, which it has given me so much, I would like to do something, but I still don't know what.

I would love to stay connected to this wonderful sport. It has simply been a light in my life and I want to continue to hold onto it."

Serena Williams: "I never said the word retreat!" What can happen now
But after these words what can happen? The US player then later said that she (probably) she will not return to play, but is this really the case? It is difficult to predict what will happen, also because Serena is still 41 years old, and, after returning to the WTA Tour, she has shown some problems with her physical condition.

Would Serena really be willing to go back to training hard to indulge in one final final catwalk on a tennis court? Difficult considering the physical condition, a bit like what happened to his illustrious colleague Roger Federer, who announced her retirement a few days after that of Serena, in what was an epochal September.

But maybe, unlike Roger, Serena would have more motivation. If it would be impossible for Federer now to even hope to reach Novak Djokovic in the Slam Race, Serena, if in acceptable physical condition, would still have a chance to win the so much dreamed 24 Majors, which would be the absolute record, shared with Margaret Smith. Court. Is there a big surprise at the Australian Open 2023?
