Ronaldo, senior players request for signings as Man Utd  board eye Casemiro

Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo is one of a number of senior Manchester United players who have gone to the board and asked for help in the form of new signings.

The team's start to the new Premier League season has been a source of great concern and players think the club hierarchy haven't acted well during the transfer window.

Under new coach Erik ten Hag, the Red Devils have lost their opening two games of the season, at home to Brighton (2-1) and away to Brentford (4-0). With alarm bells ringing, the squad are as aware as anyone that there are just two weeks left until the transfer window closes.

The group of senior players who have gone to the board is believed to include Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford.

They feel the club have lacked ambition this summer and have failed to adequately replace the players who have left.

This summer, United have seen five first-team players depart for pastures new - Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani - but there have just been three major arrivals, only two of which required a transfer fee.

There is a widespread belief that United badly need not just bodies but quality, particularly in the middle of the park. Their pursuits of Frenkie de Jong and Adrien Rabiot have been public but so far unsuccessful.

However, it is understood that the players have not turned on Ten Hag despite his disastrous start to life in charge of United. There is a positive working relationship behind the scenes and most of the squad are on board with what he's doing.

What's more, the players believe the Dutchman is not being backed by the board and understand that the situation is not fair on him either.

It will be interesting to see how the board respond, with the players now joining the fans in voicing their concerns.

Meanwhile, the board have started looking for reinforcements and Casemiro is an option.

Several other names have been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, across a variety of positions.

Manchester United have been linked with Alvaro Morata, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raul de Tomas and Matheus Cunha to boost the forward line, while the midfielder they've been most consistently linked with is Frenkie de Jong.

But, now there is the option of Casemiro and some Manchester United directors are actually in Madrid at this moment in time.

Real Madrid would prefer to keep the Brazilian as he is still a regular starter for Carlo Ancelotti, who he has an extra special relationship with.

There hasn't even been a proposal made to Real Madrid yet, but the club directors are always keeping an eye on the market and the philosophy at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu has always been that anything could happen up until the deadline day.

If Casemiro were to leave, Ancelotti would still have his sidekicks Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, as well as Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Ceballos and summer arrival Aurelien Tchouameni.

It was back in 2013 when Casemiro arrived at Real Madrid from Sao Paulo. Ramon Martinez moved quickly and obtained a loan with an option to buy, an option that was executed after he made his debut in the first team against Real Betis under Jose Mourinho.
