UFC fighter Conor McGregor has been recently pushing to directly fight Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight title straight out of his recovery from the recent injury he suffered.

In his third fight against Dustin Poirier, the Irishman broke a leg and needed a long time to recover.

Since then, he's been on a mission to go up a division and challenge Usman himself but Joe Rogan believes he hasn't thought it through.

For the UFC commentator, Conor first needs to fight against an elite opponent from that division who doesn't pose as much of a threat as the champ does.

McGregor is not only going up to that division for the first time in his career, he is also coming back from a nasty fracture.

During a recent episode of Mike Tyson's 'Hot Boxin', Rogan explained what McGregor needs to do and perhaps listening to him wouldn't be such a terrible idea.

Rogan said: "If Conor wants the most chance of success, I would say fight a guy who is a little below championship level. Maybe a guy on the come-up, who Conor has an advantage over, but it's still a competitive fight. Give him a test, but don't put him in there right away with Usman. I think, honestly, when boxers come back from a long layoff and they come back from a loss, one thing that boxers do that's smart is they have a tune-up fight.
