Chelsea manager-elect Mauricio Pochettino is throwing his weight behind a summer deal for Bayern Munich star Sadio Mane, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed that Bayern are open to offers for the 31-year-old Liverpool legend – and £30million could seal the deal.

Pochettino is a big fan of Mane and the Senegal international is seen as a viable target for Chelsea despite their likely lack of European football in the 2023-24 campaign.

It is expected that a move for the Bayern Munich ace will be the Blues’ first attempt at signing a new striker this summer.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Chelsea’s swoop for Mane could be an “instant deal”, given Bayern’s willingness to sell.

Pochettino has given the move the green light during his own contract situations.

It is believed that the Argentine’s appointment will be confirmed soon, after Football Insider revealed last week (25 April) that he has verbally accepted a job offer from Chelsea.

Sources have also told this site (28 April) that the Chelsea dressing room sees Pochettino as an exciting appointment following a dismal 2022-23 campaign.

The Blues are in the market for a new forward this summer – but are hamstrung by financial fair play regulations and the lack of top-class strikers currently on the market.

Napoli star Victor Osimhen has been watched regularly but the cost of the deal – he is valued at well in excess of £100million – means a move is unlikely.

Chelsea sit 12th in the Premier League under the stewardship of interim boss Frank Lampard.

Mane has scored 12 goals in 35 appearances at Bayern this term after joining the club last summer (2022).

He bagged 111 strikes in 263 Premier League games during spells at Liverpool and Southampton before leaving for Germany.
