Ghana coach Otto Addo admits that his team made some mistakes in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff against Nigeria and that they must avoid making the same mistakes in the second leg.

“First of all, we did well even though we made some mistakes but we started well, there was just a little bit of fatigue and it made Nigeria come into the game more,” Addo told reporters after the game.

The tie is far from over after a goalless draw in front of a raucous crowd at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Friday night.

The game had few chances, with the talking point being a second-half penalty that was ruled out by VAR.

Nigeria were awarded a penalty with 15 minutes remaining after Ghana midfielder Baba Iddrisu appeared to have handled the ball inside their box.

Nigeria's hopes of an away win was dashed as VAR overturned the penalty decision.

Following the outcome of the first leg, Ghana have two options: a win or a scoring draw will secure qualification to the World Cup finals in Qatar, while Nigeria must win to advance.

Friday night was one to forget in hurry by Jordan Ayew as he was booed by Kumasi fans after being substituted late in Ghana's draw with Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup playoff match on Friday night at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Ayew was replaced in the 92nd minute by Kwasi Okyere Wriedt, who is based in Germany. Fans began booing as the Crystal Palace player made his way off the field, indicating that they were dissatisfied with Jordan's performance.

Jordan recovered from a coronavirus infection earlier this week and trained once before the game.

Ayew gave everything he had by carrying the ball into dangerous areas, making himself available for passes in good areas, pressing, and tackling.

But it didn't appear to be enough for the nearly 40,000 fans packed inside the famous stadium.

Not only was he booed during his substitution, but fans also booed him as he entered the Black Stars bus after the game.

Jordan's brother, Andre Ayew, was in the stands due to a suspension and appeared dissatisfied with the 0-0 scoreline.

The game had few chances, with the talking point being a second-half penalty that was ruled out by VAR.

Monday will be exactly one year since Ayew last scored for the Black Stars.

The striker has made 73 appearances since his debut in 2010 and scored 18 goals.
