Osimhen returns against Lookman and Atalanta as Ravanelli posits Napoli will miss the Eagles striker when he leaves

Injured Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is back in training with Napoli after pulling out of international duty with Nigeria and could be fit to face Atalanta.

The center-forward was forced to withdraw from the call-up for his country due to the inflammation of an old scar, which had already ruled him out of the 1-1 draw with Inter.

Osimhen is working separately with the fitness staff rather than with the rest of his teammates, but there is already progress in his recovery.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the striker should be available to feature on Saturday against Atalanta.

It kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at 11.30 GMT and is a head-to-head for European qualification.

He could even start the match flanked by Matteo Politano and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Osimhen has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 24 appearances for the club this season between Serie A, the Champions League, and Coppa Italia.

However, of the 11 goals scored in Serie A this term, only one was against teams in the top half of the table – and it was a penalty against Fiorentina.

Osimhen’s teammate in the Super Eagles Ademola Lookman would be crucial to any hopes of Atalanta overcoming Napoli.

Lookman has returned to Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio after featuring in both of Nigeria’s friendly matches in Morocco.

He came off the bench to score the winning goal for the Super Eagles in a 2-1 triumph over eternal rivals Ghana in Marrakech on Friday.

Surprisingly, the former RB Leipzig ace was named again among the substitutes and was only on the pitch for 17 minutes as Nigeria stumbled to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Mali on Tuesday.

Lookman’s Atalanta teammate El Bilal Toure netted the opening goal for the Malians in that encounter to lift Les Aigles to their first win over Nigeria in 49 years.

Only two points separate sixth-place Atalanta and seventh-place Napoli, but the Bergamo-based club has played one fewer game than the Neapolitans.

A win will boost either team’s chances of picking up a European club competition spot at the end of the season.
