Osimhen, Lookman nominated for Player of the Month award

Nigeria duo, Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman are in the running for Serie A Player of the Month for October.

Osimhen and Lookman were both in fantastic form for Napoli and Atalanta respectively, in the month.

Osimhen, 23, who failed to make an appearance for Napoli in September as a result of injury returned with a bang in October.



The forward scored five goals in three league appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The former Lille star scored a goal each against Bologna and AS Roma before netting a hat-trick versus Sassuolo last weekend.

Lookman on his part registered four goals in five appearances for Atalanta in October.

The pacy winger was on target against Fiorentina, Udinese, Sassuolo and Empoli.

The duo will battle AC Milan’s Rafael Leao, Inter Milan’s midfielder, Nicolo Barella and Lazio star, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic for the individual prize.  

Elsewhere, Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Ajax Amsterdam defender Calvin Bassey has said he felt nervous playing against his former team Rangers.

Bassey joined the Dutch champions this summer after a successful season with the Scottish side Rangers for a €20 million.

Ajax played away to Rangers in the final group game of the Champions League on Tuesday and secured a 1-3 win with Nigeria International playing a prominent role in the game.



“Of course, there are some nerves when you come back here, it was strange to be in the dressing room of the away team now, but I focused on what I had to do.’

“We came here to win, I’m just really happy, of course, we wanted to continue in the Champions League, but we still have the Europa League. We have to look ahead”, he said
