Oparanozie decries the exclusion of women from football administration

Former Super Falcons star, Desire Oparanozie, on Thursday, berates football administration in Nigeria for excluding women from sports administration.

Oparanozie advocated for the establishment of a vibrant union that would fight for the interest of women like their male counterparts.

Speaking in Lagos at the yearly general meeting of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), Oparanozie said that ex-Falcons players could contribute to the development of the country’s football if the relevant federal and state bodies give them the chance in the various football associations.

“Ex-Falcons players are not well recognised as their male counterparts because they don’t work as a unit to get their deserved positions in football administration.

“We have intelligent women players in the Falcons that can help develop Nigeria football. All ex-Falcons players need to do is to keep doing their best to improve the game in their own little way and take up any opportunity that comes their way.”

Oparanozie, who recently retired from the game, said she is not planning to take to coaching, adding, however, that she would take her time to decide the path to follow now that she has quit active football.

She urged Nigeria Women’s League players to continue giving their best in the game, saying that the competition is a strong platform to stardom
