Onitsha Unity Cup: Peace FC beat Ozalla 2-0 to win third place trophy
The winner of the 2022 Onitsha Unity Cup will get one million Naira, the runners-up will go home with N500, 000.00, the team that finished third Peace Football Club will get N300, 000.00
Peace Football Club of Onitsha on Thursday defeated their city counterpart Ozalla Football Club 2-0 to win the third place march in the Onitsha Unity Cup, an initiative of Onitsha Footballers in Diaspora.
The tournament which started about six weeks ago is an annual football tournament aimed at empowering the youth in Onitsha and its environs, discovering talents and nurturing them to become the best, engaging them with positive activities so that their attention will move away from anti-social behaviours.
The final of the 2022 edition will be played on January 8, 2023, between Mourinho Football Club and Galaxy Football Club both of Onitsha.
There will also be individual awards especially the Golden Ball for the 2022 overall best player, Golden Boot for the highest goal scorer, and Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper.
Onitsha Footballers in Diaspora are a group of players who though are not necessarily from Onitsha but started their career in the commercial centre of the South-East.
The annual tournament is their own way of giving back to the society that gave them the wing to fly by nurturing their talents to be good footballers.
