Mbappe hails Ramos' Sevilla move as legend accepts salary 90% lower than other offer

The relationship between Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Ramos has always been more than just cordial. Since the Spanish defender landed in Paris, he has always been on good terms with the young French star.

There have been express trips to Madrid, photographs, and important conversations on the pitch. It's clear the pair are very good friends, and both looked out for each other on and off the pitch.

With the departure of the Spanish center-back, Mbappe has lost one of his strongest supporters in the dressing room. The Frenchman reacted to Ramos' return to his hometown of Sevilla on Monday, showing his affection for the former Real Madrid captain.

"Good luck, my friend. The king is back," Mbappe posted on his social media accounts.

Ramos has been waiting for the call from Sevilla throughout the transfer window. After rejecting an offer from Saudi Arabia, the defender didn't want to end his career without this last chance to make things right with the Andalusian club.

"Fate has given it to me. I returned home 18 years later. It was not only a debt I owed to myself but also to my family, to my grandfather, who made me a Sevillista since I was a little boy, to my father and to Puerta", explained the Sevillian on his arrival.

Ramos, 37, has had a number of run-ins with Sevilla fans while at Real Madrid, famously celebrating a brace at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in the face of insults and objects being launched at him. That resulted in a partial stadium ban for Sevilla.

According to reports, had Ramos accepted the offer on the table from Galatasaray, he would have made €11m this year. Had he accepted the proposal from Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, then he would have been in for €20m per season. At Sevilla, he will earn a little over €2m per season, a remarkable 90% less than he would in the Middle East.

Ramos’ return makes for a fascinating storyline both on and off the pitch. It is not yet clear how he will be received by the Sevilla hardcore, or if he will be forgiven

for some of the previous ills he committed. Equally on the pitch, Ramos is not an immediate fit for Jose Luis Mendilibar’s high line, and he will be competing with six other options in central defence.
