World Cup winner Hugo Lloris has been offered a deal to play in Saudi Arabia next season that would treble the Tottenham Hotspur captain’s salary.

The goalkeeper’s contract expires next year and the 36-year-old is understood to be open to a new challenge after more than a decade in the Premier League.

The offer from Saudi Arabia is not the only option on the table but it is by far the most lucrative, giving Lloris the chance to earn at least three times his present salary of about £100,000 a week.

A decision has not yet been made, with Lloris planning to speak to Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, about his future at the end of the season.

Lloris is also waiting to see who the club appoint as their next permanent head coach after the departure of Antonio Conte in March.

Tottenham are looking to sign a long-term replacement for Lloris, who has struggled with form and injuries in recent months.

There is strong interest in Brentford’s David Raya, while Jordan Pickford, of Everton, and Robert Sánchez, of Brighton & Hove Albion, have also been discussed.

Lloris is sidelined at present with a thigh injury that, according to the interim head coach Ryan Mason, will rule him out for the rest of the season. Fraser Forster has impressed in his absence.

If Lloris leaves in the summer, it would mean that his last game for the club was the humiliating 6-1 defeat by Newcastle United at St James’ Park, when the team conceded five goals in the first 21 minutes and he was substituted at half-time having suffered the injury to his thigh.

It would be a sorry end to an 11-year spell at Tottenham, during which Lloris has always been popular with the fans, a respected leader and one of the Premier League’s most established goalkeepers.

Lloris won the World Cup with France in 2018 and reached the final in December, losing to Argentina in a penalty shoot-out. He also reached three finals with Tottenham, including in the Champions League under Mauricio Pochettino in 2019.
