Kane, Osimhen and Sesko on shortlist of strikers Manchester United consider for summer move

Manchester United are weighing up a summer move for the Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.

Kane, 29, features on a shortlist of candidates that United are looking at as potential recruits.

The club acknowledges that they must sign a top-class striker this summer if they are to maintain the momentum that Erik ten Hag has built up so far following his appointment as manager last year.

Spurs may decide to cash in on Kane this summer if it becomes clear that the England captain is unwilling to extend his contract, which expires at the end of next season.

Bayern Munich are also admirers of Kane, who has spent all his professional career at Spurs.

The forward was courted by United’s neighbours, Manchester City, in the summer of 2021, but Spurs refused to sell their star player, who is one goal short of matching the 266-goal club record set by Jimmy Greaves.

Two more players that feature on United’s shortlist are Super Eagles and Napoli striker  Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko of RB Salzburg.

Sesko, 19, has agreed a £20 million move to Salzburg’s German sister club RB Leipzig this summer, but United — or any other suitor — could try to persuade the two clubs to cancel the agreement by paying a higher fee.

United are on a ten-match unbeaten run in all competitions and will move to within five points of the Premier League leaders Arsenal if they beat them at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

They have scored 30 goals in their first 19 Premier League games, which is 20 fewer than Manchester City and 12 short of Arsenal’s tally.

Of the teams in the top half of the table, only Chelsea, who are in tenth position, have scored fewer goals than United.

Marcus Rashford is United’s top scorer in the Premier League with eight goals and Bruno Fernandes is behind him with four. Anthony Martial, whose campaign has been hindered by injury, has scored three times in the league, one of which was a penalty.
