Mbappe’s promotion causes uproar in PSG

PSG star Presnel Kimpembe was forced to have crunch talks with PSG manager Christophe Galtier after he promoted Kylian Mbappe to vice-captain.

The 27-year-old previously held the position until the forward replaced him, but the defender was left in the dark over the decision.

Mbappe's promotion comes less than 12 months after the 24-year-old signed a new contract worth £500m, which saw him become one of the most powerful people at the club.

And French outlet L'Equihasave claimed that Galtier and Kimpembe were forced to have talks to defuse the situation.

The report states that the PSG manager had to explain to center-backback why he was stripped of the role.

With captain Marquinhos on the bench for their last-32 Coupe de France victory over sixth-tier US Pays de Cassel on Monday, Mbappe wore the armband for the first time.

And it proved a memorable night for the France international in more ways than one as he became the first PSG player EVER to score five goals in a match.

The flying winger also chipped in with an assist.
After the match, Galtier said: "It has been defined like that since the start of the season.

"I had decided that Kylian should be the vice-captain.
"He stayed at PSG and he deserves the armband when 'Marqui' is not there."

But Kimpembe was unhappy with the outcome and slammed the club on social media.
He said: "In the last few hours I have heard and read a lot about myself.

"I therefore wish to make this order to avoid continuing to spread false information in this regard.

"I was not made aware of this decision, this is completely false... That said, I will always respect the decisions of the club."

PSG's hunt for a ninth Ligue 1 title in 11 years continues against Reims on Sunday.
And while Gaultier's small but won all but one home league game this season, they've lost two of their last top-flight matches.
