Chelsea legend Joe Cole believes Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk should be blamed for Karim Adeyemi’s goal that led to Chelsea defeat against Dortmund Wednesday night.

Cole was on BT Sport after watching the Borussia Dortmund goal that beat Chelsea.

Adeyemi broke from his own box after a corner and ran the length of the pitch. Enzo Fernandez went with him the whole way, but couldn’t catch him.

Former Chelsea winger Cole insisted that the right move was to bring Adeyemi down while he had the chance. After he got into stride, it was game over.

Cole has a point. It was perhaps a little naive of him, and slowing the striker down in any way possible would probably have been worth it if he could avoid a red card in the process.

We will need a little more of that ruthless cutting edge to win this competition again.

On the other hand, Adeyemi is so ridiculously quick, maybe even closing the yard he needed to get a shove away was beyond Enzo.

Cole also slams Mykhailo Mudryk who was the closest man to the Dortmund speedster but failed to close his opponent down allowing Adeyemi to run the entire length of the pitch virtually unopposed.

‘There needs to be a bit of blame on Mudryk,’ Chelsea icon Cole said on BT Sport.

‘When you are an attacking player, you are thinking to yourself, “right, I can score a goal here if the ball drops [on the edge of the area]”.

‘As soon as you realise that the ball [has been cleared], right, switch on defensively. He just lets [Adeyemi] run off him.

‘I feel like quick players can lose concentration because they feel that their pace can get them away with it.’

Graham Potter was equally frustrated by the manner in which the goal was conceded, with the result meaning Chelsea have won just two of their last 14 matches across all competitions.
