Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi gave a man-of-the-match performance as Chelsea FC was held to a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League match played on New year. 


The player who lasted 83 minutes on the pitch was a torn in the flesh for the Chelsea central defensive pair of Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly all day. 


Taiwo Awoniyi was inspired by the presence of his family at the City Stadium. 


The contingents of the family for the handling striker were led by his Dad, Mum, Wife, and Siblings. 


The player knew he needs to double his effort to help his team's ambition of staying in the Premier League and the Kwara State born never disappoint as he gave his all to delight the fans at the stadium.  


He amassed  39.7% of the votes to beat Sergey Aurier and Morgan Gibbs-White respectively to emerge as the best player in the match winning the Man Of The Match (MOTM) gong. 

It was a rewarding New Year gift for the family who came from Nigeria to cheer the gangling striker as they celebrated the New year with the award in the bag.

Raheem Sterling had put the Blues in the lead in the 16th minute but Sergey Aurier equalized for the City Stadium landlord, in the second half to ensure both shares the spoils, one point to Forest's ambition of keeping their spot in the league. 


Meanwhile, the Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro was seen celebrating the man of the match award with Taiwo Awoniyi after the match at the City Stadium. 


The Portuguese were one of the spectators at the stadium as he continues to monitor the progress of Super Eagles all over the world.
