Once again, PSG fans whistled as Lionel Messi’s name was read out ahead of the Ligue 1 match against Olympique Lyon at the Parc de Princes.

The Argentina captain returned from an international tour of his home country in which he showed off the World Cup to the adoring fans, as well as beating both Panama and Curaçao along the way.

However, upon returning to his club side, the ex-Barcelona player was loudly whistled by the home supporters as his name was read out on the PA system.

Previously this season, right after PSG’s failure in Europe against Bayern, the star was also subject to boos and whistles.

The player has been linked recently to a return to his former club, FC Barcelona, where he played for over a decade and marked a generation.

Rumours have circulated ever since his departure from Spain over a return to Cataluña, and it appears as though the hopes and prayers of the culés may be answered when the summer market opens.

Messi was also linked with moves to MLS, Saudi Arabia and even back to his first ever club, Newell’s Old Boys, but it now appears that the most likely option is a move to where he became the best player in the world.

It has been said that current FC Barcelona boss, Xavi Hernández, is already counting on Messi in his 2024 plans, and vice-president of the club Rafael Yuste even said that “Messi knows how much we appreciate him. I would love for him to come back. We’re in contact, of course, with them.” The club are also making layoffs to be able to have more wiggle room if they do indeed go on the attack to sign the player.

Meanwhile, Thierry Henry has told Messi to complete Barcelona return

Henry was asked about his view on the situation, as part of his role as a pundit for the Lyon game, and the ex France international claimed Messi is being unfairly targeted.

“It’s embarrassing to hear whistles from the Parc. You can’t whistle one of the best players on the team, who has 13 goals and 13 assists this season,” as per reports from Amazon Prime.

“Personally, I would like to see him finish his career at Barcelona, in Europe.

“After that, I don’t know what he will do. Because the way he left Barcelona after everything he did… I didn’t really like it.

“For the love of football, he should go back to Barcelona.”

Messi will wait until the end of the campaign to make a decision on his intention, with PSG closing in on the Ligue 1 title, despite another campaign of Champions League frustration.
