President of the FIA Mohammed bin Sulayem has spoken about Formula 1's jewellery ban and how it might impact Lewis Hamilton.

The seven-time world champion has been given a two-race grace period - the Miami Grand Prix and the Spanish Grand Prix - to remove all of his piercings since some of them require surgery to take off.

That means he must be piercing and jewellery free by the time of the Monaco Grand Prix and Bin Sulayem has spoken about what the consequences will be if Hamilton doesn't comply.

"There are fines that apply," he revealed.

"It's like if someone speeds on the roads. You can't stop them doing it, but they get fined, even if it was accidental.

"You can't let people off because they are your friends. There has to be one rule for all, and that's that.

"I love jewellery, I absolutely love it, but in the car there can be no choice.

"People say the rules haven't been implemented before. Don't ask me why not. People can ask the old regime why that is the case."
