A 15-year old Nigerian born midfielder Ethan Nwaneri is now officially the youngest player to feature in a Premier League match.

Harvey Elliott, who was 16 years and 30 days old when he played for Fulham in 2019 was initially the EPL Youngest player before Nwaneri eclipsed the record.

Nwaneri achieved this noble feat when he came on as a late substitute during Arsenal's 3-0 thumping of Brentford in a London derby on Sunday.

First half goals from William Saliba and Gabriel Jesus gave Mikel Arteta's a perfect start before they finished off in style with another goal early in the second half through Fabio Vieira.

Nwaneri  impressed Mikel Arteta midweek as he starred for the Arsenal U-21s and that pave the way for the inclusion in the team to face Brentford on Sunday

The 15-year-old attacking midfielder was  promoted to the Arsenal first team this week after impressing with the U-18s and U-21s.

The youngster started the season with the U-18s but was upgraded to the U-21s and has swiftly made his Premier League debut.

Nwaneri has scored four times and assisted four for the U-21s and U-18s this season.

Born in England in March 2007 to a Nigerian father, Nwaneri shares the same surname with former Super Eagles defender Obinna Nwaneri.

However, reports indicate there is no family ties with the ex Enyimba captain.

Nwaneri has already  played for the England Under-16s when he was 14, but he remains eligible to play for Nigeria if he chooses to represent his father's land.
