Djokovic hopes for longevity with Alcaraz just as he has with Federer and Nadal

Tennis World No.1 Novak Djokovic may be the last member of the Big 3 currently active on the ATP tour, but the Serbian is hoping to build another lengthy rivalry with upcoming star Carlos Alcaraz.

The duo have only met four times on tour, with the score tied at two wins apiece. Their most recent encounter saw Djokovic defeat Alcaraz in a spectacular final at the Cincinnati Masters this summer, although the Spaniard had previously prevailed at the 2023 Wimbledon final.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the 24-time Grand Slam champion spoke about his aim to continue playing for as long as possible. The Serbian added he would like to have memorable matches against the younger players, and picked out Alcaraz from the batch of upcoming talented players.

"There are some great young players coming up," said Djokovic. "I think the future of tennis is looking good with Carlos leading that field. We had some thrilling encounters last year, this year in particular with the finals at Wimbledon. And also Roland Garros and Cincinnati.

"I think it's great for our sport that there are more rivalries happening, obviously with Federer and Nadal but also with Andy (Murray) are right up there for me. Carlos I just played him three or four times, hopefully, I'll play him as much as I played the other guys, meaning that I'll be playing for years to come."
