Champions League: Will Madrid, Bayern, City, and Barcelona remain unbeaten, will United win or Arsenal bounce back

The UEFA Champions League is back this week with no shortage of storylines to keep an eye on over Tuesday and Wednesday's games.

Tuesday sees the likes of Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Napoli and Inter in action. Wednesday is arguably headlined by a tasty Paris Saint-Germain vs. Milan clash with Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United, Manchester City, RB Leipzig and Barcelona also playing. It promises to be another unmissable week of UCL action and we take a look at some of the main things to keep tabs on during this midweek's continental slate.

Arguably the biggest storyline in Tuesday's games will come at Old Trafford where Erik ten Hag's Manchester United desperately need a win against Copenhagen having lost to both Bayern and Galatasaray already in Group A. The unbeaten Turkish giants are already four points clear of the Red Devils so not even all three points will be enough to get the ailing Premier League side back into top two contention and failure to beat the Danes would cast doubt on their ability to even drop into the UEFA Europa League. Wins over Brentford and Sheffield United have turned things around form-wise in the Premier League since the 3-2 loss at home to Galatasaray despite leading twice but Copenhagen were only narrowly beaten by Bayern and could be tough opponents for Ten Hag's men.

RC Lens' 2-1 win over Arsenal was arguably the surprise result of the second round of Champions League group stage games with Adrien Thomasson and Elye Wahi's goals bettering Gabriel Jesus' early strike at an electric Stade Bollaert Delelis. The Gunners thumped PSV Eindhoven 4-0 in their opening game so Group B does not look too bad if you are Mikel Arteta but a poor result away at Sevilla would put significant pressure on ahead of the home game in a fortnight. A draw probably would not be the worst result for Arsenal but the sooner they get back to winning ways in Europe the better and they are coming into this one off the back of a 2-2 draw away at Chelsea which preserved their unbeaten Premier League record.

Four clubs have won both of their group games so far and they are Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Barcelona. Real are away at SC Braga this Tuesday and Bayern are on the road at Galatasaray the same day while City are in Switzerland to face Young Boys and Barca are at home to Shakhtar Donetsk. The Catalan giants are arguably in the most favorable position to maintain their winning start although the Spaniards and the European champions will also probably fancy their chances. Thomas Tuchel's German outfit are possibly the most at risk with this one given Galatasaray's win away at United last time out and unbeaten record so far. Turkey is never a straightforward destination as this one could prove tricky for the Bundesliga side in terms of keeping their 100% winning run going.

A contender with Lens' surprise win over Arsenal for shock of the last round of games was Newcastle United smashing a below-par PSG 4-1 on a famous European night at St James' Park. The Magpies have Borussia Dortmund now with the Germans desperate for a win to keep their hopes of at least the

third spot alive with Milan away in Paris for the first of what is a mouthwatering doubleheader between the French and Italian heavyweights. A draw for Newcastle could be enough to stay top of Group F but BVB's struggles so far suggest that Eddie Howe's men could use this game to really take control of the group with PSG vs. Milan expected to be so tight that a draw would not be a huge shock. Should that happen, a win could take Newcastle three points clear at the halfway stage which would be a huge and unexpected achievement after so long away from the UCL. Neither Milan nor Dortmund can afford to lose this midweek and both sides find themselves up against it on the road.
